Shropshire’s autumn diary is led by the theatres. Tim Peake brings his space show to Theatre Severn on Saturday 10 October, with Lucy Worsley, Jeremy Bowen, Joe Calzaghe and Chris Packham on the same stage around him. Then come the county’s two confirmed firework nights: Craven Arms on Saturday 24 October at the start of half term, and the West Mid Showground in Shrewsbury on Saturday 7 November.

  • Mid Wales Opera: Gianni Schicchi, Friday 6 November, 7.30pm, Ludlow Assembly Rooms. Puccini’s one-act comic opera. A free touch tour of the set runs at 6.30pm for ten people, booked ahead (Ludlow Assembly Rooms).
  • Bonfire and Firework Spectacular, Saturday 7 November, 4pm to 9pm, West Mid Showground, Berwick Road, Shrewsbury SY1 2PF. A quieter display for younger children at 6.15pm and a louder one at 7.45pm. Adults £15, children 0 to 15 free, with proceeds to the society’s rural charity (West Mid Showground).
  • Remembrance Day Service and Parade, Sunday 8 November, 10.30am, Bailey Head, Oswestry. Porthywaen Silver Band leads the parade to the Memorial Gates in Cae Glas Park for the service, two minutes’ silence and wreath laying (Oswestry Town Council).

  • Shrewsbury parkrun, every Saturday at 9am, The Quarry, Shrewsbury SY1 1RN. A free, timed 5k to walk, jog or run (parkrun).
  • Shrewsbury Market Hall, Claremont Street, SY1 1HQ, open Tuesday to Saturday, 8am to 4pm, with a smaller selection of stalls on Thursdays (Shrewsbury Market Hall).
  • Oswestry outdoor market, every Wednesday and Saturday, 9am to 3.30pm, on the Bailey Head and Bailey Street. The Powis Hall indoor market opens Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays (Oswestry Town Council).
  • Oswestry Artisan Market, the last Friday of the month, next on Friday 30 October, 9am to 3.30pm, followed by a late night indoor market with drinks, street food and live music from 7pm to 10pm (Oswestry Town Council).

Theatre Severn sits beside the Frankwell car park, and The Quarry is a short walk from the town centre car parks.
