Funerals today in Shrewsbury: how to find a service time
Most funerals in and around Shrewsbury that end in a cremation take place at Emstrey Crematorium and Cemetery, London Road, Shrewsbury SY2 6PS, which has served Shropshire since 1958. Neither the crematorium nor Shropshire Council publishes a public list of the day's services, so if you are trying to find out whether a funeral is today, and at what time, these are the routes that work:
- Check the family's notice. Funeral announcements placed with us carry the date, time and place as the family gave them, and stay on this page until the day of the service.
- Ask the funeral director. The director named in the notice holds the booking and can tell you the time, the venue and whether flowers or donations are wanted.
- Ring the crematorium office on 01743 237900, Monday to Friday 9am to 4.30pm. The office can confirm practical details for a service at Emstrey.
If you are going to a service at Emstrey
The chapel seats 102 people over two levels, with room for about 40 more standing, and covered outdoor areas with speakers take the overflow at larger funerals. There are 133 parking spaces plus coach parking. The chapel has a webcasting option for anyone joining remotely; the family or their funeral director arranges it and shares the link. The grounds and cemetery are open every day from 8.30am to 5pm in the winter months, and until 8pm in summer.
What a cremation at Emstrey costs
Under the price list in force from 2 January 2026, an unattended direct cremation is £575 and an attended direct cremation £695. A Sunday service, 60 minutes, is £1,750, and there is no charge for the cremation of a child aged 18 or under. Full-service fees depend on the time slot and length, from the first services at 9am to twilight services in the evening, so check the current Emstrey price list or ask your funeral director.
