Three men aged 19, 21 and 22 are in hospital after a Ford KA hit a lamppost and a wall on Ellesmere Road, Shrewsbury. A 19-year-old was arrested and bailed.

Three young men are in hospital with serious or life-threatening injuries after a car crashed into a lamppost and then a wall on Ellesmere Road, Shrewsbury, late on Saturday night.

A 19-year-old man was arrested at the scene. West Mercia Police has released him on bail while its enquiries continue, and is asking witnesses to come forward.

What the police have said

The force published its witness appeal on Monday 26 October. It says:

  • the collision happened at around 11.48pm on Saturday 24 October, on Ellesmere Road
  • only one vehicle was involved, a white Ford KA
  • the car was travelling along Ellesmere Road towards Shrewsbury town centre
  • it hit a lamppost and then a wall
  • three men, aged 19, 21 and 22, were taken to hospital with serious or life-threatening injuries, and all three remain there

A fourth man, also 19, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He was taken into custody and has since been released on bail. An arrest is not a charge, and nobody has been charged.

The force has not named anyone involved, and neither do we.

What it means for you

If you were on or near Ellesmere Road late on Saturday 24 October, the police want to hear from you. That includes anyone who saw the white Ford KA before the crash, and anyone with dashcam or CCTV footage from that stretch.

The force has not said whether the road was closed or for how long. For current closures and roadworks across the county, see our Shropshire roadworks and travel page.

A second serious crash, near Oswestry

West Mercia Police is also appealing for witnesses to a separate two-car collision on Tuesday 27 October. It happened shortly before 5pm on the B5009 near Wootton, close to the A5 junction. That is near Oswestry, in the north-west of the county, not in Shrewsbury.

A woman in her forties is in hospital in a critical condition. A man in his sixties had minor injuries. The force wants to hear from anyone who saw a Mitsubishi Shogun heading south from Whittington towards Queens Head, or a Suzuki Alto travelling the other way. The same email address applies.

Earlier this month a man in his sixties died after a four-car collision on London Road, Shrewsbury.
