Remembrance Sunday is 8 November. Oswestry's parade forms at 10.30am and Bridgnorth's at 10.15am. Shrewsbury has not published times; 2025's began at 10.28am.

Remembrance Sunday 2026 is Sunday 8 November, and Armistice Day falls on Wednesday 11 November. Two Shropshire town councils have published their 2026 arrangements: Oswestry’s parade assembles on the Bailey Head at 10.30am, and Bridgnorth’s forms up in St Leonard’s Close at 10.15am after a 9.30am church service. Shrewsbury Town Council has not yet published times for 2026.

Shrewsbury’s 2025 parade set off from Castle Street at 10.28am for a service at the War Memorial in The Quarry at about 10.50am, and the pattern has barely moved in years. Expect something close to that, but check back: this page will carry the 2026 times as soon as the town council publishes them.

Oswestry: confirmed for 2026

Oswestry Town Council’s listing for Sunday 8 November 2026 (Oswestry Town Council):

  • The parade assembles on the Bailey Head at 10.30am.
  • Porthywaen Silver Band leads it to the Memorial Gates at Cae Glas Park, where the Remembrance Service is held, followed by the two minutes’ silence and the laying of wreaths.
  • The parade then returns to the Bailey Head and is dismissed there by the Parade Marshal.
  • A second service is held at the Memorial Gates on Armistice Day, Wednesday 11 November, at 11am.

Road closures for 2026 have not been published. In 2025 the council closed Church Street, Smithfield Street, The Cross, Bailey Street and Bailey Head from 10am to about noon for the parade, and held a commemoration service at St Oswald’s Church at 4pm the same day (Oswestry Town Council, 2025). Neither is yet confirmed for this year.

Bridgnorth: confirmed for 2026

Bridgnorth Town Council added its 2026 Remembrance Sunday listing on 24 September (Bridgnorth Town Council):

  • 9.30am: Remembrance Service in St Leonard’s Church, before the parade.
  • 10.15am: the parade forms up in St Leonard’s Close.
  • It then marches to the War Memorial in Castle Grounds for the Act of Remembrance.

The council invites everyone to attend. It has not published road closures.

Shrewsbury: 2026 times not yet published

Shrewsbury Town Council organises the county town’s parade and service. As of 4 October it had published nothing for 2026. Its 2025 attendance form for organisations went up in early October, so the 2026 version is likely soon.

What happened in 2025, from the town council’s own notice (Shrewsbury Town Council, 2025):

  • The parade began at 10.28am on Castle Street, led by units of HM Forces, veterans, local dignitaries and civic representatives, with the Mayor leading the civic procession.
  • It went to the War Memorial in The Quarry for the Service of Remembrance at around 10.50am.
  • Rolling road closures ran from 9.30am to 12.30pm along the parade route.
  • The service was live-streamed on the council’s website and social media.
  • Shrewsbury Dial-A-Ride ran a free shuttle for older people and anyone with mobility difficulties: four vehicles from Frankwell car park to the Priory Road entrance of The Quarry, by the swimming centre, from 9am to 10.30am, and back from 11.30am for an hour. Donations went to the Royal British Legion.

Organisations taking part were asked to arrive at Shrewsbury Castle by 10am to parade, or at the War Memorial by 10.40am if not parading (attendance form, 2025).

The 2023 notice named the route and the roads: from the Castle along Castle Gates, Castle Street, Pride Hill, Mardol Head and St John’s Hill to The Quarry, then a march-past at a saluting dais on St Chad’s Terrace, with short rolling closures on Castle Street, Pride Hill, Shoplatch, St John’s Hill and St Chad’s Terrace, and a longer one on St Chad’s Terrace during the service (Shrewsbury Town Council, 2023).

Ludlow, Church Stretton and Shifnal

None has published 2026 details yet. What their own councils say about the pattern:

  • Ludlow. The parade starts from the castle and marches round the Market Square for the wreath-laying and silence, then continues round the square with salutes to members of the council before ending at St Laurence’s Church (Ludlow Town Council). No 2026 time is listed.
  • Church Stretton. The Royal British Legion organises and leads the parade. In 2025 Easthope Road, Sandford Avenue, High Street, Churchway and Burway were closed from 9am to 11am (Church Stretton Town Council, 2025).
  • Shifnal. The 2025 service at St Andrew’s Church began at 10.55am, with a rolling road closure on Victoria Road, Market Place, Church Street and Innage Road from 10am to 12.45pm (Shifnal Town Council, 2025).

Most villages hold their own service at the church or memorial, usually published in the parish magazine rather than online.

Getting there and parking

Parades close town-centre streets for an hour or more, so arrive early and park outside the route. In Shrewsbury, Frankwell Main is free on Sundays and sits across the footbridge from The Quarry; Abbey Foregate is also free on Sundays. Our parking page has the Sunday rules for every council car park, and the roadworks and travel page carries any other closures that weekend.
